The biggest problem with using technology with children

One of the problems that can face parents and teachers of children using technologies, I think can be the over use of internet without supervision from the adults. I believe the use of Internet, cell phones, iPods and MP3 without rules made by the two parts, parents and children. These rules need to be set up according the age and context. Also, for the use of Internet, the parents need to talk with their children as well the teachers can support this practice telling the dangerous that can happen, about uploading pictures, and the usage of their real personal information. Parents also need to arrange the use of the computers with schedules related with their school assignments and some social sharing under the rules arrange between parents and children.
On the other hand, I think is very important to put the computer in a social place of the house, not in the bedrooms of the children that might help to avoid the misuse of Internet, for example going to pages not built for children or people underage need to be block and have a conversation why is not correct to go on this pages.
While I was thinking about the problems I look up some information in Internet, and I found a research about how many parents have rules with their children for the use of technologies. For that reason I believe that the problems related with the use of technologies need to have rules how and when to use it.

This is the link of the research that I mentioned before.

How to keep students engaged during snow/ice days?

During snow/ice storms we can give many activities that can help our students to be engage with the learning process while they are at home because outside is a snow/ice storm. If you don’t have many ideas you can go and use http://www.google.com/, and search for ideas that can be helpful for snow days, but your seach its going to depend on the age of your students or children, like this one http://parenting.ivillage.com/gs/gsactivities/0,,6xvw,00.html. If you are more hands-on, you can create a blog where you are going to post different activities to your students, but you need to be sure that before anything happens (weather related) your students know how to log in and used (that I am sure that will know it before you). Another option that can be an option use the social networks like www.facebook.com and you can send to them the different activities that they need to do during those days of snow, even more your students can keep contact using facebook or any messenger for doing collaborative work. Every activity that’s related with technology it will depend on electric power, so think ahead what can happen I give to your students/parents nice ideas related with the content of the class.

Is Webquest a Web 1.0 or Web 2.0 Technology?

I went to Webquest web page and I started to think if it is built based on the technology of web 1.0 or web 2.0. At the begging I thought it was Web 1.0 because I did not found spaces for sharing and interact with the rest of the Web-community, as Web 2.0 is. Then I though may be Web 2.0 because I found one kind of interaction under the “Share Webquest tag”, but as far as the actual Web 2.0 it can be developed. So for that reason I can concluded that this site was develop at the begging as Web 1.0 and I think now they started to make the transition to Web 2.0, but at this moment they can be 1.0 and ½, or 1.5.

I want to share with you this picture that I found very helpful and graphic to understand the differences between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0
